Manager Summary Report 2020/21 Season

4/10/20 Celtic Reds 4-3 Brunswick Reds

Team Abdulrazak Alia Arthur Novaes-Goes Cathal Nugent ( C ) Daniel Brooks Darragh McIvor Isam Masri ( GK ) Ismael El Amrani El Haji Josh Byrne Nikolai Degtiarev Paddy Sheehan Romario Raikes Theo Ashley Jackson Zachary Whillis After 7 months off due to Corona Virus, football was finally back! We started our training back in August, playing 5 friendly matches. Due the pandemic we have had to make some adjustments in order to follow the government and public Health England rules as well as the announcements made by the FA/Middlesex. The Season started today and we are now playing for points and cup games, the league has put us into Division 1, so all the teams we play now are very strong, however, we are growing in confidence and have now signed two new players to our team. Zak and Zach were making their debut for us today, very strong individuals and we were looking forward to watching them settle in to our squad. On a wet and rainy day, we welcomed Brunswick Reds to Brentside Playing Fields. We had played against them last season twice so we knew they were a strong and team. We had played Brunswick Reds in January and lost 7 – 4. However when we played them in March it was a 4 – 4 draw and as the results showed, we were definitely heading in the right direction. We had put in a lot of hard work during pre-season and we were looking forward to the challenges ahead, starting today. We were nervous to begin with and made mistakes, you could tell it was end to-end football being played by both teams but we soon took control when we scored an early goal on 2.46 min. It was a great finish from Nikolai. But Brunswick Reds came back into the game with a goal of their own. We were awarded an indirect free kick for a back-pass by Brunswick Reds. Cathal and Theo worked it out really well. Brunswick had to defend on their goal line. The whistle blew and Theo touched the ball. Cathal shot immediately after Theo’s touch and fired it in to the roof of the net. 2 – 1. Unstoppable and very well worked out boys. The half time whistle blew and we told the players that they need to tighten up in defence. They were fantastic going forward but our back line was caught out a number of times by quick counter attacks. Nikolai scored again with another solo effort. To be honest he could have had a hat trick today. Brunswick drew level again with time running out. We won a free kick just inside the Brunswick half. Cathal sized it up and with the wind behind him the ball flew in to the box. We thought the keeper was going to save it but in the wet conditions it crossed the line it 4 – 3. It was a nerve-racking finish and Isam had made some great saves to keep Brunswick out, but we held on to gain the 3 points. Ismael nearly scored from the half way line with a wonderful shot which Brunswick keeper kept out with a wonderful save we all thought it was in but just kept out on the line. Brunswick had plenty of chances as well but thanks to Isam, he was on top form today. It was a well-deserved win for us particularly in the tough weather conditions and as good as we were we still need to work hard on the following areas of our game; • Communication in defence • Holding the offside line straight • Get stuck in tackles, don't shy away from them. • Don't turn our backs on shots and be brave upfront. There are always things to be worked upon. That is the only way to improve. But boys it was fantastic getting the new season started with a win and gaining 3 points. It is really helping doing extra training on Thursday nights and it gives the boys extra time to work upon what we want to do in games. Boys once we work on our defence and get the organisation and leadership sorted, we will become very hard to beat. Our next game is on Sunday away to FC Starz Reds, it will be the first time we will be playing this team, boys let's have another win. COME ON CELTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mandeep, Ian and Denis

11/10/20 FC Starz Reds 5-0 Celtic Reds

Team Abdulrazak Alia Arthur Novaes-Goes Cathal Nugent ( C ) Daniel Brooks Darragh McIvor Isam Masri ( GK ) Ismael El Amrani El Haji Josh Byrne Nikolai Degtiarev Paddy Sheehan Romario Raikes Theo Ashley Jackson Zachary Whillis On a beautiful Sunday Morning, we travelled away to play FC Starz Reds. We played on a 3G pitch and the ball was very fast on the ground. It was our second game of the season and it was the first time we played them so we knew nothing about how they would play. We started the game very weak as if we were afraid of the opposition. On 3 mins Isam took a goal kick but it went straight to the opposition and they had an early chance to score but Isam made a good save after his mis-kick. As coaches we always say never mind mistakes, it is how we recover from them which counts. That is how we learn and improve. Our passing game today was way off the mark which was surprising because this is an area that we have been really focussing upon since we resumed training after lockdown. We have been working on the boys being comfortable on the ball and playing quick and accurate passes. Exactly like we did against Parkfield in our pre-season friendly, which was a joy to watch, but today we could not even get a couple of passes going. We told the boys before the game that the 3G pitch will be fast but to be honest they are used to that from our Thursday sessions at Rectory Park. FC Starz Reds dominated most of the first half and we had couple of half chances but could not test the keeper. FC Starz Reds scored. Our defence was all over the place because there was a lack of communication. This was frustrating because that is exactly what we are working upon with the boys in every training session now. We remind the boys each week that communication is the key to get good results in games and we need leaders to step up in the team. In the second half it was the same, we had no leader in the back line. We did have a chance with Cathal but he shot straight at the keeper plus Ismael had a half chance when he tried to chip the goal keeper but it went over, we were very close. We could have lost this game by a bigger margin, but Isam made some great saves to keep the score down, so well done to our keeper. FC Starz Reds were passing the ball well today, we just could not handle the pressure which is something we need to work upon. We were lucky last week against Brunswick with the win and managed to hold on. Make no mistake, there are very good teams in Division 1 and if we are to compete we really need to work hard and focus. I know it is only our second game and we are still improving but boys we need to improve if we want to stay in Division 1. We still need to work hard on the following areas of our game; • Holding the offside line straight. • Getting stuck in to tackles, don't shy away from them. • Don't turn our backs on shots and be brave. • Don’t just watch where the ball is, watch your positional play. • Communication, Communication, Communication. There are always things to be worked upon. That is the only way to improve. Boys we play together and we lose together and we win together so let’s put this game behind us BUT learn from it. Our next game is against LNER Reds at home so let's step up for this game. We have now played two games this season and conceded 8 goals and scored only 4 goals which means we need to create and convert more chances and let in fewer goals by tightening up our defence. The key to a solid defence is COMMUNICATION and LEADERSHIP. This was lacking today. Don’t leave the communication and leadership to one or two boys, this is everyones responsibility. I know we have a lot quite boys in our squad but now is the time for all boys to step up and the fact is, the more you communicate, the easier it gets. So let’s start using those loud voices that I am sure your parents are used to listening to at home. COME ON CELTIC!!!!!!!!!! Let's show everyone who we really are! Mandeep, Ian and Denis

18/10/2020 Celtic Reds 3-2 LNER Reds

Team Abdulrazak Alia Arthur Novaes-Goes Cathal Nugent ( C ) Daniel Brooks Darragh McIvor Isam Masri ( GK ) Ismael El Amrani El Haji Josh Byrne Nikolai Degtiarev Paddy Sheehan Romario Raikes Theo Astley Jackson Zachary Whillis On a nice sunny Sunday morning we welcomed LNER Reds to Brentside Playing Fields we had played against them a couple of times so we knew what their strengths and weakness were. We came into this match full of confidence as we have been working hard in training getting our defence tighter and really working on our communication, particularly in our defensive line. LNER Reds came into this match with two defeats so we knew it will be a challenge today. We started the match very fast with some wonderful football being played. Our passing was great to see plus our communication in our back line was greatly improved. After 3 minutes LNER had a free kick but nothing came of it. After 5 minutes we had a free kick. Our Captain Cathal took it and passed it to Zach who almost scored. After 7 minutes LNER had their first shot on goal but Isam saved it. This was turning in to a great game to watch, it was end to end football being played by two great teams. On 12 minutes we won a corner and Cathal put in a great ball in to the danger area. Nikolai knew exactly what to expect from the delivery and Nikolai leapt in to the air and met the cross with a powerful header to make it 1 – 0. There was no stopping that header. We are really making the most of our corners. Good deliveries and great finishes. On 20 minutes LNER scored from the left wing from a throw in. Isam saved the first shot but we didn’t react quickly enough to clear the second ball and LNER took full advantage to score and make it 1 – 1. On 22 minutes Cathal took a free kick which fell to Darragh. Darragh then took it on and dribbled past a couple of players and scored to make it 2 – 1. It was a terrific solo goal. But unfortunately we could not hold on to the lead and 3 minutes later LNER scored to level things up again. Our defence lost focus for a minute and did not get back quick enough. Which meant that it was left to Isam and Cathal running back to prevent them scoring but it was too late and the ball was in the back of the net to make it 2 – 2. We told the boys at half time keep it tight in the back and use the width of the pitch get more crosses in and test their keeper more. Keep focus and disciplined in their positions. We had plenty of shots in the second half but the majority were straight at the keeper. We just weren’t testing the keeper properly and making things easy for him. With time running out the game looked as though it would end in a draw but our boys had other ideas. We entered stoppage time and won a corner. Theo’s quick thinking saw him pick out Cathal with a short corner and our Captain scored the winner with a wonderful shot low and hard and just inside the post to make it 3 – 2. It was a good goal but it was Theo’s clever and quick thinking which made it happen. This shot on goal was literally the very last kick of the game. It was a great team effort today by the boys after a heavy defeat last week. They bounced straight back up from that defeat which shows fantastic maturity and progression. Just a couple of things boys, remember not to hold on to the ball for too long, realise it quicker. We have now played three games won 2, lost 1 but boys we still need to create and convert more chances and let in fewer goals by tightening up our defence. The key to a solid defence is COMMUNICATION and LEADERSHIP. Today was a massive improvement in these areas and it was great to see all the defence talking and communicating. It is not only the responsibility of one person it is every boys responsibility. It is the whole team us coaches want to hear have loud voices in every game we play. I am sure your parents are used to listening to you all at home. Our next game is away to London Athletic on Sunday come on boys let get a winning streak going let’s show every one we are not in Division 1 to make up the numbers. We want to push for the top. See you all on Thursday at training. Mandeep, Ian and Denis

25/10/20 London Athletic Reds 4-0 Celtic Reds

Team Cathal Nugent ( C ) Daniel Brooks Darragh McIvor Isam Masri ( GK ) Ismael El Amrani El Haji Josh Byrne Nikolai Degtiarev Paddy Sheehan Romario Raikes Theo Astley Jackson Zachary Whillis On a wet and rainy Sunday morning, we travelled to play London Athletic Reds. We played them in a friendly two months ago and drew 2-2 so we knew how they played. We were missing a couple of players today due to illness. After last weeks narrow win we came into this game full of confidence but we started the game very slow and after 2 minutes Isam was called upon to made an early save. One of the London Athletic Reds players was in an offside position. Our linemen James put the flag up but the ref over-ruled the decision. The player was clearly offside the Ref was one of their own officials. We told the boys before the game to play your game and play to the whistle. Our goal keeper Isam was the busiest, in the early stages of the game with some wonderful saves but he could do nothing about the shot that London Athletic had on goal to make it 1 – 0. On 14 minutes we could have equalised with Nikolai and straight after that Paddy could have scored but unfortunately just it went just wide of goal. We were awarded a free kick outside the box. Cathal put it in the danger area but no one could finish it off. Nikolai hit the bar twice in a couple of minutes. We were getting very close but couldn’t get the equaliser. We went in at half time 1 – 0 down. We told the players to take more shots on goal and test their keeper. Also to use the width of the pitch and get our passing going releasing the ball earlier. Darragh picked up an injury in the first half so he could not play in the second period that was a big loss for us so we had to change things up for the second half. We started slow again and London Athletic were dominating. Our communication was not there today. We are constantly trying to get the boys to focus upon their communication which is so important, especially in defence. But at the moment were just aren’t doing that talking. We really need leaders to step up regarding communication. This has to come from you boys. As coaches we can’t do it for you. You need to realise that the more you do it the more natural it becomes. London Athletic scored 3 more goals in the second half. But even though that happened we were very unlucky not to get on the score sheet. We hit the bar again twice through Theo and Cathal in a game that we could have been a lot closer. The result did not reflect the game hitting the bar four times in a game we knew it was not going to be our day today. Boys let’s keep our head up and look forward to the next game. We are still finding our way in this tough group but two wins out of four games is very decent boys. You should be very proud of yourselves, we certainly are very proud of you, especially for the hard work you are all putting in, in training. We picked up some injuries today, I just hope all the boys are well enough to play next week. Things to learn from today’s game; • Our communication and leadership was missing today. This really needs to improve because at the moment neither of these things are there and they need to be. This has to come from you. • We need to create more chances on goal and make the opposition keeper work. • We need to tighten our defence and work hard to cut out silly mistakes. • Defending isn’t just the job of the defenders, it is every players job from front to back. • The key to a team is solid defence lets show all our parents, manager and coaches how good we all are. • Holding the offside line straight. • Getting stuck in to tackles, don't shy away from them. • Don't turn our back on shots and be brave. • Don't just watch where the ball is, watch your positional play. It may seem that we as coaches are being a bit critical but the only way for us to improve is by picking these things out, working on them and as a result of that work we improve. We play AFC Wembley at home on Sunday so let's go out there and put on a great performance for all the parents and coaches to see. Forget the result of this game and we look forward to the next one. I want to hear loud voices in our next game. COME ON CELTIC!!!!!!!!! Mandeep, Ian and Denis

1/11/20 Celtic Reds 3-7 AFC Wembley

Team Abdulrazak Alia Cathal Nugent ( C ) Daniel Brooks Darragh McIvor Isam Masri ( GK ) Ismael El Amrani El Haji Josh Byrne Nikolai Degtiarev Paddy Sheehan Romario Raikes Theo Astley Jackson On a wet Sunday morning we welcomed AFC Wembley to Brentside Playing Fields and thankfully the rain held off for the match. We have played them before in a friendly and we had a good idea as to how they would play. AFC Wembley are a very strong and physical team so it was big challenge for our boys today but they are capable of these challenges. We were missing a couple of players today but we still had strong team out. We started game on the back foot and Wembley put us under pressure right from the start with their strong and direct play. They had an early chance in the first 2 minutes but their header went wide, this was a warning sign for us that we were in for a tough game. We worked hard to get our own game going and we went on the attack down the other end and Theo did really well to work an early chance of our own on 7 minutes. It fired off a good shot at goal but the Wembley keeper managed to save his effort. Paddy then had a chance of his own a minute later but Wembley dealt with it. Even though we were up against a strong team we were battling hard but misfortune befell us. Wembley had a shot from distance on the right. It was straight at Isam who had it covered but it managed to go through his hands in to the goal. 0 – 1. Isam is a massive player for us but was caught out by the slippy ball. What a tough job it is to be a keeper, but one thing is for sure we are lucky to have Isam between the posts for us. He saves us so many times in games. We were still creating chances and Cathal nearly scored on 15 minutes but it was saved by the Wembley keeper. This was followed by Cathal having another shot but on this occasion his effort flew wide of the post. AFC scored four more goals in the first half which to be honest were more down to us not setting ourselves properly and getting stuck in to tackles. They were just driving straight through us time after time and we simply weren’t dealing with their attacks as a controlled unit. This was really down to that same old thing, communication, or lack of it. We were paying the price. And it was a high price, with Wembley taking full advantage. Having said that the second goal which Wembley was definitely offside but our linesman admitted that he got the decision wrong and the goal stood. We just had to get on with it and the boys did just that. But to be fair to our boys even though were 0 – 5 down, they still stuck with it. We only had 2 subs today so every boy was having to work their socks off. This new found determination saw us pull a goal back through Nikolai, with a great assist by Theo who set him up following a great drive forward. We could very easily have had dropped heads having gone behind by 5 goals, but our boys are better than that. They have proven to us over the years that they never ever give up and that was the case again here today. So we went in at half time 1 – 5. The boys were a bit frustrated but together we had a plan. We told the boys to forget about the first half and treat the second half as a totally different mini game. We told the boys just think it is 0 – 0 and go out there and give everything in the second half to try and win this second half mini game. We said to the boys to tighten up the back line. We had some decisions that did not go our way in the first half. The second goal Wembley scored was offside but we told the boys just play to the whistle. In the second half we stared stronger and Nikolai had an early chance on 6 minutes. We had a corner kick on 8 minutes. Cathal took it and Darragh scored it great goal. Great delivery and fantastic finish by Darragh. As coaches this is exactly what we wanted from the boys. AFC then scored two more goals to take the lead in this mini game but we were totally focussed and our performance in the second half was brilliant. We were bossing things more now and our interplay was fantastic, Theo was causing Wembley real problems with his skillful runs down the wing. We were definitely matching Wembley in this second half and to our joy we finished off the scoring with a fine goal by Nikolai to make 2 – 2 in this second half and 3 – 7 overall and that is how it finished. The boys were a bit disappointed at the end but we told the boys at full time keep your heads up. We played much better in the second half which we treated as a mini game it was just a shame that we didn’t have the same level in the first half. If we had the same level this game would have been a lot closer than the scoreline showed. But to be honest as coaches we were delighted with the boys effort, they really got stuck-in in the second half and they got their rewards for their hard work which goes to show that they are more than capable of mixing it up with the strongest teams in our Division. But it is down to the boys themselves to focus once they step on to the pitch. As coaches we are saying the same things again and again, communication and leadership is missing. We need to create more chances on goal and make the opposition keepers work harder. We need to tighten our defence and work hard to cut out silly mistakes. We are letting too many goals in at the moment, we have played five games and not kept a clean sheet. Our defending isn't just the job of the defenders, it is the responsibility of every player, from front to back. The key is to a team is solid defence lets. We were meant to play our first ever game in the Middlesex Cup next week but unfortunately the government have put a lockdown on grassroots football until early December. We were all looking forward to the Cup game, but that will have to wait for now. Boys you can still train at home just take a football in the garden and kick it against a wall and practice. Hopefully we will be back on the football field soon. Everyone stay safe and we will see you all very soon. !!!!!!! Come on Celtic !!!!!!! Mandeep, Ian and Denis

13/12/20 Celtic Reds 2-4 Cademy Reds (Middx Cup 1st Rd)

Team Abdulrazak Alia Arthur Novaes-Goes Cathal Nugent ( C ) Daniel Brooks Darragh McIvor Isam Masri ( GK ) Ismael El Amrani El Haji Josh Byrne Nikolai Degtiarev Romario Raikes Theo Astley Jackson Zachary Whillis On a cold Sunday morning we welcomed Cademy to Brentside Playing Fields. Today we were playing our first ever game in the Middlesex Cup so the boys were looking forward to the game. We had a tough draw that came out of the hat against the League leader in our Division 1. Before the game we told the boys to just go out there and play your game and just think it is a final and every single boy play their part from goal keeper to striker. That means defending as a team helping each other out. We started the game on the front foot and nearly took the lead on 2 mins with an effort by Zach that went inches wide of the post. Straight afterwards we had a corner kick that Cathal took and Nikolai headed just over bar. So within 5 mins we could have been a couple of goals up, which was a really good sign against a really strong team. Cademy came into the game with effort of their own which Isam saved. Cademy then took the lead early on with a well taken goal to make it 0 – 1, but our boys heads did not drop and we kept on going and creating more opportunities through Cathal and Arthur. This shows what or boys are about, nothing fazes them, no matter who it is they are playing. And this attitude paid off because we equalised soon after through a well taken goal by Zach, 1 – 1. It was his first goal for Celtic and we were very pleased for him and what a day to get it, in the Middlesex Cup. So at half time it was 1 – 1 but what a first half it was. It was end to end football being played by two great teams. We told the boys just keep on playing as you were and create more opportunities in front of goal. Just keep it tight at the back. Cademy did't know what hit them in the first half as they are used to bossing teams, but not today with our boys. We played some amazing football in that first period and Isam kept us in the game with some world class saves. We knew the boys could do the same in the second half. In the second half we started slow and Cademy took advantage on 7 mins and then 14 mins to make it 1 – 3. Then unfortunately Isam made a mistake on 23 mins and Cademy took full advantage of it to make it 1 – 4, this was harsh on him as apart from this he was simply outstanding. It is a tough job being a goal keeper. In this second half we ran out of steam a bit and the quality of Cademy showed. But with our boys they never accept defeat no matter what the score is. They fight until the last whistle blows and for this determination they were rewarded. It was a consolation goal but it just typifies the fighting spirit of these amazing boys. Cathal pulled another goal back to make it 2 – 4 and that was the final score. Cademy certainly knew they were in a match today and I bet they expected an easier time of things. We gave them a good game today and it will be interesting when we meet them again in the League. Just a few things we picked up from this game today; • We need to concentrate and play for 60 mins. You were good for 40 mins but then started to lose a bit of focus. • Our first half was excellent if we had taken those missed chances it could have been different game. • Defending isn't just the job of defenders it is every players job from front to back. But boys don't let your heads drop, playing a good team in our first ever Middlesex Cup. We will have plenty more to come in the future. Boys we are back to a League game against Brunswick Reds on Sunday so lets prepare for that and go out they and get the three points to move us up the table. We beat them at home on the first game of the season so let's do the double over them. This is our last game before we go on a two week break for Christmas. We will see you all on Thursday for Training. Mandeep, Ian, Ed and Denis

20/12/20 Brunswick Reds 0-5 Celtic Reds

Team Abdulrazak Alia Arthur Novaes-Goes Cathal Nugent ( C ) Daniel Brooks Isam Masri ( GK ) Ismael El Amrani El Haji Josh Byrne Nikolai Degtiarev Paddy Sheehan Romario Raikes Theo Astley Jackson On a cold and wet Sunday morning, we welcomed Brunswick Reds to Brentside Playing Fields we played with them in the first game of the season and beat them 4 – 3. This was meant to be an away fixture for us but the Brunswick pitch was waterlogged so we gave them the option to play at our ground, so we were the away team on the day. At least the game went ahead and that is what everyone wanted. We even had a League Ref which was great. We started the game on the front foot and after 31 seconds Theo missed a glorious chance to score and straight after afterwards Cathal shot straight at the goal keeper. We were dominating the game even at this early stage of the game and after 9 mins Nikolai had a shot straight over the bar. We were really threatening them with every attack. Then Zac went past two Brunswick players and got his shot away but his effort went just wide. We were certainly doing enough to be in the lead but unfortunately it was still 0 – 0. But the good thing for us coaches was the fact that it was Celtic who were having all the chances and Brunswick had nothing. Our solid defence was shutting down any attacks they tried to make with ease. Ismael as centre back was controlling his back line perfectly and his discipline caught Brunswick offside time after time. Then either side of him he had wing backs Romario and Daniel putting in top quality displays. Romario in particular was like a brick wall, nothing was getting past him. 14 minutes in and Cathal hit the post with a wonderful effort, very unlucky not to score. In the 17th minute we took the lead. Isam gathered the ball and he launched a high ball down the centre of the pitch. It totally missed out the midfield. As it came in, Cathal went on the run and gathered it. He drove straight at goal and the defender couldn’t get at the ball. With the keeper rushing out Cathal calmly slotted it in to the net to get our first goal, 0 – 1. It was a well taken goal but what an assist from Isam to pick him out. Our defence was rock solid and we were starting to dominate in midfield now which was allowing us plenty of chances. Then we won a free kick outside the area that our Captain Cathal took and it just went over the bar. This was followed soon after by a decent effort from Nikolai. He fired his shot off but it was straight at the keeper and he saved it. All our boys were playing excellent and even though we had a make shift set up, it was working perfectly. Every boy was doing their job perfectly and working really hard for each other. The tackling was strong and we were winning nearly all 50/50 balls. Our communication was excellent. Our passing and moving on and off the ball was real quality. The boys were easily the best team. They just needed to put away some of the chances they were creating. As coaches we were delighted with what we were seeing from the boys. All our pressure had to tell and our second goal came in 26 minute. It was an exact copy of our first goal. Isam launched the ball down the field from his box. It went past everyone. Cathal again ran on to it. He was strong enough to fend off the defender and again he calmly slotted it past the keeper to make it 0 – 2. 2 goals for Cathal and 2 assists for Isam, the Celtic supporters went wild. We went in at half time with a two goal lead but we told the boys this is a dangerous scoreline. If we get another goal it should be game over but if Brunswick pull one back its game on again. We did have our chances in the first half, but we didn’t take them, this is where we need to up things in the second half. As coaches we were thrilled with the boys performance in the first half we simply wanted them to push on now. Just think it is 0 – 0 and go out there and play as you did in the first period. The second half kicked off and Brunswick had and early chance after 3 minutes when they hit the post. Then Isam closed down a Brunswick player who then hit his effort over the bar. So two early chances for them. But our boys came into the game on 9 minutes. Cathal scored again. The Brunswick keeper came out off his line and Cathal took full advantage of the error to make it 0 – 3 and complete his Hat-Trick. This early goal was then added to by Nikolai who also got on the score sheet to make it 0 – 4. Our boys were flying now and Brunswick had no reply. Zak broke through from midfield with great skill and footwork. He got his shot away, it beat the keeper but the post came to the rescue to help Brunswick. This was followed by Arthur who soon after had a shot of his own but his effort went just wide. Very unlucky boys, both efforts were very close. On 16 minutes Josh nearly scored but his effort was cleared off the line by the Brunswick player, he was so close and deserved the goal. When the ball came back out Cathal was there to pick up the pieces and he forced it home for his fourth goal and our fifth, 0 – 5. This was a commanding scoreline and even though we had the game well and truly won we kept up our levels right until the final whistle. We had more chances to score but instead of being selfish, our boys were trying to set each other up, which was amazing to see. This is real teamwork. We finished the match winning 0 – 5. It was a great performance by the team before we break up for the Christmas break. The great thing was the fact even when we made substitutions there was no dip in the onfield strength of the team. That is the sign of a great squad of players. With so many quality performances today I would just like to mention three in particular. • Ismael was magnificent in the centre back position in the absence of Darragh. He controlled the back line perfectly and no attacker was getting past him. • His partner at right back Romario put in his best ever performance for the team he totally dominated his area of the pitch and there was nothing going past him. Every tackle and decision he made today was perfect. • Then we had our Captain Cathal he was running all over the place. His leadership and control of the game was top quality. He scored 4 goals and unselfishly set up many more. He really led by example. What a way for our boys to finish 2020. That win takes us up to 3rd in Division 1. That is some achievement boys. We were worried at the start of the season being in Division 1, but with 4 wins out of 7 and performances like we saw today we have nothing to be worried about. These boys fear no team and rightly so, they are amazing. Thanks for all your support on the sideline today and throughout the year. It really means so much to the boys and us coaches. Our next game is on 10th Jan 2021 against ProFa. Enjoy the Christmas Holidays and a happy New Year to everyone. We look forward to seeing you all in 2021.
